چکیده

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) as an environmentally friendly approach compared conventional heat-reflux (CE) for isolation fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.) seed polyphenols and assess bioactivity obtained extracts. Water, ethanol (30%, v/v) acetone were used solvents, carried out varying temperature (40, 60 80 °C), irradiation time (5 10 min) microwave power (300 600 W). According total phenolic content (TPC), 30% at °C after 5 min 300 W proved be optimal MAE conditions obtaining highest yield polyphenols. profile both extracts comprised 21 compounds, with cinnamic acids flavonols being most abundant. When CE, extract showed a lower amount TPC well sum all identified individual phenols, although similar antioxidant capacity. antimicrobial activity weak, showing inhibitory only against Pseudomonas fragi, Shewanella putrefaciens Campylobacter jejuni strains, while Gram-positive bacteria yeasts not sensitive extract.

Evaluation of the essential oil of Foeniculum vulgare Mill (fennel) fruits extracted by three different extraction methods by GC/MS.

BACKGROUND Hydrodistillation (HD) and steam-distillation, or solvent extraction methods of essential oils have some disadvantages like thermal decomposition of extracts, its contamination with solvent or solvent residues and the pollution of residual vegetal material with solvent which can be also an environmental problem. Thus, new green techniques, such as supercritical fluid extraction and m...

Phytotoxicity and stimulatory impacts of nanosized and bulk titanium dioxide on fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mill).

The objective of the this study was to compare concentrations of nanosized TiO2 at 0, 5, 20, 40, 60 and 80 mg L(-1) with bulk TiO2 for phytotoxic and stimulatory effects on fennel seed germination and early growth stage. After 14 d of seed incubation, germination percentage highly improved following exposure to 60 ppm nanosized TiO2. Similar positive effects occurred in terms of shoot dry weigh...

Assessment of Free Radical Scavenging Potential and Oxidative DNA Damage Preventive Activity of Trachyspermum ammi L. (Carom) and Foeniculum vulgare Mill. (Fennel) Seed Extracts

Oxidation of biomolecules such as carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids results in generation of free radicals in an organism which is the major cause of onset of various degenerative diseases. Antioxidants scavenge these free radicals, thereby protecting the cell from damage. The present study was designed to examine the free radical scavenging potential and oxidative DNA damage p...

Effect of Foeniculum vulgare Mill. seed extract on the genital organs of male and female rats.

Following the oral administration of acetone extract of Foeniculum vulgare (fennel) seeds for 15 days is male rats, total protein concentration was found to be significantly decreased in testes and vas deferens and increased in seminal vesicles and prostate gland. There was a decrease in activities of acid and alkaline phosphatase in all these regions, except that alkaline phosphatase was uncha...
